ROLEX EXPLORER 1016 GILT TROPICAL UNDERLINE DIAL

The Rolex Explorer has been a staple of the Rolex sports watch collection since the 1950s. Iconic by both its appearance and history, it’s a tool watch in an understated guise. We are offering a very beautiful and rare Explorer reference 1016, fitted with its original gilt dial. The dial has two key rare features – it’s tropical and has an underline. The tropical effect gives the dial an atlas-esque look, where the brown is coming through in a lovely pattern. The silver underline sits beneath the SCOC text. The lume on the 3-6-9 is very clean and has not flaking and the gilt text is perfect. The hands match the dial perfectly. The case is in very good overall condition with strong lugs. The rivet bracelet is in good condition, with a few dents on the reverse where we believe it was restored. The bracelet has 58 endlinks and clasp stamped ‘4/62’.  The watch has been fully serviced by our watchmaker.
