The Swiss watch industry is renowned for its centuries-old tradition of mechanical watchmaking, but it also has a history of innovation and adaptation, including ventures into the realm of digital and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) watches.

During the 1970s, the Swiss watch industry faced a significant challenge with the advent of quartz technology. Quartz watches, which used a battery and quartz crystal for timekeeping, were more accurate and less expensive to produce than traditional mechanical watches. This innovation led to what is known as the Quartz Crisis or Quartz Revolution, where Japanese companies like Seiko gained a dominant position in the watch market with their affordable and accurate quartz watches.

This Guarda Val was an early attempt at marketing a Swiss alternative and while it didn't really catch on, the style still looks great.
